There are THREE locations you can access our library resources online:

  1. Main Library Website: http://www.lib.unc.edu
  2. Undergraduate Library Website: http://www.lib.unc.edu/house/
  3. Health Sciences Library Website: http://hsl.lib.unc.edu/

Once you’re in, look for “e-resource tools” which will give you access to all our library databases by subject.

For most of the task of Unit 1, the databases listed under “Public Health” will be most useful.

I recommend the following:

  • Pubmed
  • Pychinfo
  • StatsData find
  • RAND publication
  • Public Health Grand Rounds
  • LexusNexus Academic
  • Health and Environmental Research online

Our library also has great resources for creating “multimodal” compositions, the MRC (Media Resource Center) is a great place to get access to video and audio equipment as well as editing software and the gigs to back it up. You may also wish to visit the UL’s Design Lab or maybe check out .eDU.

For the tasks of Units 2 & 3, you may find yourself using a variety of different discipline-specific databases.

I recommend using the library’s “e-research tools” portal, selecting the discipline or disciplines applicable to your topic.

Once in this area, look for articles in “big” science journals like PNAS (Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci.), Nature, Science, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Physical Review Letters, J. American Chemical Society, Physical Review B, Astrophysical Journal, Journal of Speech, Language, Hearing Resources, New England Journal of Medicine, Health Affair, Applied Physics Letters,Social Science Medicine,…and so on.
