Public Service Announcements cover public interest topics and are often disseminated through a media (whether it that media is print, digital, or televisual) with the object of a) raising awareness about an issue b) changing public attitudes about or behavior towards a public issue c) informing the public about available resources for those facing a particular issue…and the list could go on, but basically PSAs inform, persuade, and motivate their audience.

PSAs first appeared during World War II. Radio broadcasters and advertising agencies created a council that offered their skills and facilities to the war effort, creating messages such as, “Loose lips sink ships,” “Keep ’em Rolling” and a variety of exhortations to buy War Bonds.

Most PSAs concern health and safety issues for a particular demographic. For the purposes of this assignment, our demographic is UNC-Chapel Hill Community.
